And lastly, letting it air dry.

Protect your shoe laces
If you have old and worn out shoe laces, it is best not to place it inside the washing machine for it can further damage the fabric of the laces. It is advised to replace it with new ones.
Placing tennis shoes inside mesh garment bag
You should put your tennis shoes inside a mesh garment bag before placing it inside the washing machine. This will prevent excessive banging of the machine. It can prevent damage to the machine.
Place old towels to balance the machine
Placing old towels inside the washing machine when washing tennis shoes is a good idea to balance the load. However, make sure it is old and same color of the shoes. New towels can dye and will damage your shoes.
Use liquid detergent
This will ensure that there will be no crumbs of detergent inside the shoes.
Do not use a dryer
The heat from a dryer can damage the fabric of the shoes.
Polish dried shoes
After the drying process, make sure to polish your tennis shoes for better result. You can also put some conditioner on cracks so that it will look new.
